Do You Have Oral Health Questions for Us?

Dental Crowns and Bridges in Calgary, AB

When faced with broken or missing teeth, dental crowns and bridges improve chewing function and complete your smile. If you have a painful, missing or fractured tooth, we invite you to contact us. At Avenida Dental Centre, our dentists present every treatment option so that you can make an informed choice.

Repairing Broken Teeth with Dental Crowns

Dental crowns, also called caps, completely cover the tooth to repair and protect broken, decayed or root canal-treated teeth. They can also alter the shape and colour of teeth for cosmetic dentistry purposes. Our skilled local technicians custom-design each crown and match them to the shade of your existing teeth.

Your Dental Crown Procedure

Our South Calgary dentists value our patients’ overall experience and provide the most painless dentistry possible. We will communicate with you throughout your procedure to ensure that you remain comfortable.

Dental crowns typically require two visits.

First Appointment: Planning and Preparation

  • Diagnostic x-rays to determine the extent of damage or decay to the tooth.
  • Remove damaged or decayed tooth structure and reshape the tooth.
  • Take impressions of teeth for crown fabrication.
  • Place a temporary crown to protect and seal the tooth.

Second Appointment: Final Crown Placement

When your dental crown is ready, we will invite you back to the clinic to place the final crown and make any adjustments for a comfortable bite.

We recommend regular dental check-ups to ensure your teeth and dentistry are both healthy and intact.

Implant-Supported Bridges

We also offer implant-supported bridges for multiple missing teeth, which eliminate the need to place crowns on healthy teeth by relying on dental implants for support. Implant-supported bridges require additional evaluation and surgical procedures. We will discuss this innovative option with you during your consultation.

Caring for Dental Bridges

In addition to routine dental appointments, dental bridges require some specific home care, including cleaning the dental bridge using small brushes or floss threaders to avoid periodontal disease and decay.

I grew up in Medicine Hat, Alberta. At the time it was a city of 55,000 but felt very much like a small town. After two years of study at Medicine Hat College, I moved to Edmonton to begin my dental education at the University of Alberta. Upon graduation in 2011, I decided to further my dental training by entering a general practice residency offered by the University of British Columbia. This program, based in Vancouver General Hospital, provided me with the opportunity to further my dental skills, knowledge and …

Welcoming New Patients to Our South Calgary Dental Centre

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Dental crowns in South Calgary are an excellent solution for teeth that have been broken or severely damaged by decay, and the good news is that the process to complete a crown is straightforward.

A tooth crown typically takes two appointments to complete. During your first visit, your dentist will prepare your tooth for its new restoration and make a temporary crown for you to wear while a trusted dental lab handcrafts your final crown.

It may take two to three weeks for the lab to complete your dental crown, and then you’ll return to Avenida Dental Centre to have our dentist permanently place it. At this time, they’ll make any adjustments needed to ensure that your bite is functioning correctly and that your new crown fits comfortably. Once that is completed, it’s time for you to enjoy your new tooth!

Choosing a dental crown in South Calgary to restore your smile is a great way to return aesthetics to your smile without losing any of the chewing function you had before. A porcelain crown is durable and can also be customized to match your teeth and naturally complete your smile.

If you have questions about dental crowns or other treatment procedures, we welcome your call to our dental practice.

A crown or “cap” is a protective cover for a tooth that is at risk of fracturing and would be too difficult to fix with a filling or veneer. Crowns can restore the beauty and strength of natural teeth.

Common Reasons for a Dental Crown

  • Tooth had root canal treatment in the past
  • A very large or challenging filling
  • Cosmetic concerns such as excessive wear or teeth that continually keep chipping and breaking
  • Dark or discoloured teeth
  • To hold a dental bridge in place
